JAMIE Hoyland is up for grabs-at the right price, writes TONY DEWHURST.
The former Clarets skipper requested a meeting with Chris Waddle after failing to feature in Burnley's plans this season. And Waddle confirmed today that he will listen to offers for the 31-year-old.
The Burnley chief observed: "Jamie came in to see me about his situation and I've given him permission to put his name about.
"Unless we have suspensions or injuries he will not be one of my first team regulars.
"The fact is that I cannot guarantee Jamie Hoyland first team football at present."
It appeared Hoyland could be part of Waddle's plans after playing in the pre-season tour to Northern Ireland, but he has so far only featured as a substitute in Burnley's opening Division Two game at Watford.
Hoyland joined Burnley in November 1994 after he was signed by Jimmy Mullen in a £130,000 deal from Sheffield United following a short loan spell at Turf Moor. The 31-year-old made his Clarets debut with a magnificent performance in a 0-0 draw against Roker Park at Sunderland before scoring against the Blades in a televised 4-2 victory at Turf Moor.
After the departure of Steve Davis to Luton Town, Hoyland was appointed Clarets skipper and went on to make nearly 80 league appearances.
Meanwhile, Waddle played in a strong reserve team line-up in last night's 5-0 victory over Unibond League outfit Barrow at Holker Street. Burnley's goals arrived from in-form striker Ian Duerden, who scored twice, Glen Little, substitute David Henry and an own goal from Carl Macauley giving the Clarets a handsome victory.
Striker Andy Cooke, who was due to get a run out at Barrow, is currently sidelined with a thigh injury, but hopes to be fit for the weekend trip to Southend United.
Waddle saw impressive performances from ex-Everton man Neil Moore, while Marco Gentile and Gerry Harrison are back in the first team frame after they both played at Holker Street.
Goalkeeper Tony Parks capped a fine display with a second half penalty save from Eddie Johnson.
The kick-off at Holker Street was delayed for quarter of an hour after the Burnley party were delayed following an accident on the M6 near Lancaster.
Burnley lined-up: Parks, Harrison, Heffernan, Moore, Gentile, Hoyland, Waddle, Little, Smith, Duerden, Gleghorn.
