BUDDING young engineers in East Lancashire are being offered a platform to launch their careers.
Substantial cash and training packages are being offered to encourage 18-20-year-olds the chance to take a career in engineering.
ELTEC, Pendle Training, Training 2000 and Burnley and Blackburn colleges have joined forces for the scheme under the Modern Apprenticeship programme.
"East Lancashire's engineering firms are world leaders and they want to remain that way," said ELTEC's training and education development director Andy Fawcett.
"It is imperative that they invest in technical skills to meet current and future advances in this fast- moving industry."
Young people who take part in the scheme will receive the equivalent of university level qualifications and will grant of £2,400 for their initial 40 week training programme.
Grants for training support of more than £10,000 are also available to employers who take part in the initiative.
