BURY has belied last month's national downturn in the number of jobless.
Figures for July show there were 2,883 people out of work in Bury - up 122 over the previous month.
The latest statistics embrace 2,147 males and 736 females.
The unemployment rate for the Bolton and Bury travel to work area goes up from 4.8 to 4.9 per cent while that for Greater Manchester rises to 6.0 from 5.8 per cent.
The jobless rate for the North West, however, is slightly down from 5.1 to 5.0 per cent.
During July, Bury, Radcliffe and Prestwich Job Centres had 453, 141 and 121 unfilled vacancies respectively.
Bury Job Centre placed 236 people into work, Radcliffe 92 and Prestwich 88.
