WHITEFIELD bakers Slattery bowled over radio cricket commentators with a special cake.
The cake, baked to promote the Tidy Britain Group's competition, "Britain In Bloom", was delivered to the Test match commentary box at Trent Bridge last Friday.
BBC Radio Four's commentary is listened to all over the world and its commentators' views on cakes are as eagerly sought as their comments on cricket!
Slattery's cake features three batsmen seated in a pavilion colourfully decorated with flowers.
Carolyne O'Callaghan, from the Tidy Britain Group, said: "As a charity we are always on the look out for novel ideas to get our message across
"More than 1,500 groups of volunteers from around the country entered this year's competition and we felt they deserved some recognition. The cake has certainly done that."
The cake was the work of David Wilson (47), who lives in Unsworth, and he has been entered in the "Cake Decorator of the Year" category in this year's National Bakery Awards.
Slattery, celebrating 30 years in the business this year, has won National Bakery Awards before and has already reached this year's final.
Owner John Slattery is very pleased with the cake: "I'm confident it will do well in the awards, but I'm also glad we could help publicise such a good cause," he said.
