THE Thompson Centre in Burnley is appealing to local industrialists to sponsor its new look.
The centre needs around £800,000 in cash if it is to stand any chance of getting a share of the national lottery sports fund.
Burnley Council hopes to get £4 million towards the cost of an ambitious plan to make the Thompson centre one of the finest centres in the region.
The Council's Judith Forshaw said: "The scheme will not only improve the facilities for the current half million visitors but will substantially increase that figure, attracting many more customers from throughout the area."
Business concerns are being asked for donations, to make a pledge or sponsor an area of the new building.
If all goes well, the revamped Thompson Centre will re-open for business in the Spring of 1999.
The main changes envisaged will make access easier for elderly and disabled people and families with young children and create a more flexible use of space.
