STRIKER Andy Cooke's return from suspension should give Burnley the cutting edge they have lacked so far this season.
The 23-year-old is expected to be in the starting line-up for the game at Southend on Saturday (August 23).
Chris Waddle was impressed with Cooke's form in pre-season training and the Clarets have been missing his presence in front of goal in the matches against Gillingham and Watford.
His attitude to the game perfectly fits Waddle's strategy. The manager said: "He works and works and never gives anyone a moment's rest. He has been very impressive over the summer and he is raring to go."
But Waddle is not only concerned with work-rate and the physical side of the game, as some fans are beginning to fear.
He insists that the flowing football will come as the season progresses - but the basics have to be right first.
"The main thing is for us not to be a soft touch like Burnley have been lately," he said.
Cooke's return could force Lee Howey back into central defence, which, with Marco Gentile recovered from injury, presents a welcome selection problem for Waddle. And Gerry Harrison's knee problem has cleared up, which also gives more options in defence and midfield.
ZEndsleigh Insurance's shirt-sponsorship of Burnley will end after 10 years at the end of the season.
The company is offering a 'large financial incentive' to win promotion to division one and is discussing new ways of providing support.
