A STRETCH of road branded a death trap by residents and shopkeepers is to be inspected by councillors.
People living in Crawshawbooth, Rossendale, petitioned Rossendale Council because they believe double yellow lines on Burnley Road through the village have made the road more dangerous.
They are afraid the lack of on-street parking has meant drivers now speed down the road much faster than they used to, particularly approaching the village's zebra crossing, and want the yellow lines replaced by a 20-minute limited waiting order.
A report to Rossendale Council's engineering committee pointed out that the important issue should be safety, "not the commercial interest of individual shopkeepers."
Suggestions for improving road safety include making the crossing more conspicuous and putting anti-skid surfacing on the road.
