A special rape helpline has been set up in Lancaster to help the victims of sexual attacks. Members of the Support After Rape group (SAR) claim the help line will provide the survivors of rape a 'listening ear' as well as a point of information for further help. A spokesman for the SAR said that the helpline was founded after a local nurse found herself providing unofficial counselling to women. Until now the only other facilities were in Chorley and Manchester.
The line is open every Wednesday between noon and 2pm on 388848. During the rest of the week a 24-hour answering service is in operation and messages will be returned.
