A CONGREGATION designed and built their own special portable pool so that baptisms could go ahead at their church.
The "invention" received its own baptism yesterday when three members of Rosehill Baptist Church, Burnley, took part in an outdoor ceremony in front of around 130 people.
The portable baptistry will be used for "full immersion" baptisms where candidates are submerged in the water as a sign of their faith.
Church minister, the Reverend Richard Booth said church member Lee Mannering came up with the idea of building a baptistry and it was designed and built by a team of church members.
Mr Mannering, 35, Paula Bland, 16, and 15-year-old John Palmer, were baptised by Mr Booth in front of the church during the morning service.
