STUDENTS are set to do battle for a place in a national final after helping firms go green over the summer months.
A total of 15 students have been carrying out environmental assignments during placements with East Lancashire companies over the past two months.
The placements were organised under the Shell Technology Enterprise Programme which has been organised locally for the past 10 years.
This year the Groundwork Business Environment Association provided support for the scheme to help fund placements with a green theme.
Projects students have taken part in have included waste minimisation and an ecological survey for firms including Promat Fire Protection, The Glisten Co Ltd and MD Foods .
The 15 local projects are set to be judged latest this month and the winners could go through to the national STEP finals.
