Radcliffe Borough 1 Accrington Stanley 2
ACCRINGTON Stanley continued their promising start to the UniBond League campaign at Stainton Park with their second victory in 48 hours.
Man of the match Steve Berryman and some quality Stanley defending kept the lively Radcliffe attack at bay.
Delighted Stanley manager Tony Greenwood said: "We ground out three points without playing over well.
"We have not clicked yet but I have to very pleased with six points from our first two league matches. I'd have settled for four points from the first two. This is a bonus.
"Radcliffe put us under a lot of intense pressure and we would have lost games like this last season. But there is a new resilience and strength in the team. It has proved a very encouraging start." Jim McCluskie opened the scoring for Stanley in the 17th-minute, sending a looping header over the Radcliffe goalkeeper.
McCluskie then received a good cross into the six-yard box, but he just failed to control it quickly enough and it was scrambled clear.
Then, on 41 minutes, Radcliffe drew level when Connor played a one-two with McCrory who lobbed the ball over Steve Berryman.
Former Burnley man John Borland replaced Danny Mills at half-time in a tactical switch by Greenwood.
The best move of the match saw Stanley regain the lead in the 50th-minute.
Lee Rogerson swept past the defence to drive the ball across the penalty area for Darren Davies to volley home. Berryman then saved at the feet of Tony McDonald, before Rogerson fired a rasping shot over the bar.
Radcliffe tried desperately to find an equaliser, but Berryman was outstanding, making the save of the match from substitute Gary Butler and Russell Proctor cleared off the line.
