A LANDLADY has come to the rescue of a workingmen's club which forgot its licence.
Members of Spring Terrace Workingmen's Club on Haslingden Road, Rawtenstall, faced a month without beer when their five-year registration certificate expired.
But Mrs Margaret Connolly, landlady of the nearby Shepherds, stepped in with an offer to run the bar until the club gets a new certificate.
Rossendale magistrates granted Mrs Connolly an occasional licence after solicitor Terry Bird told the court the club discovered last Friday that its certificate expired this week and it would take at least 28 days to apply for a new one.
