CHRIS Waddle could tie up a permanent deal with ex-Everton man Neil Moore in the next 48 hours.
Waddle is planning to meet Moore and his agent this weekend to see if the two parties can thrash out an agreement.
And that could lead to a contract for the 24-year-old who can play either in defence or up front.
Moore has impressed Waddle with a series of sparkling displays in the Clarets second team, most notably in the 5-0 hammering of UniBond League outfit Barrow at Holker Street.
Waddle explained: "I think it is only fair to Neil if we get the situation thrashed out with him.
"He has been with us for several weeks on trial now and he has shown just what he can do.
"Neil is a solid and adaptable footballer who could offer us extra options, either in defence or attack.
"We will see what transpires when I meet the player and his adviser."
A big future was predicted for Moore at Goodison, but he only featured in a handful of league games before loan spells at Blackpool, Oldham, Carlisle and Rotherham, before being released from his Everton contract.
Waddle, meanwhile, turns his attention to tomorrow's important home game against Bristol Rovers - without captain David Eyres.
The Clarets skipper - a scorer in the Coca-Cola Cup success over Lincoln - is serving a one match suspension following his red card against Gillingham at Turf Moor on August 16. "Losing David is a big blow but we have to get on with things," added Waddle. "We have options in that area." Waddle will not be in a position to announce his line-up until a late fitness test on midfielder Mark Ford in the morning.
Ford missed the midweek win over Lincoln with a groin strain and Waddle rated his chances at only 60/40 today.
Midfielder Michael Williams is definitely ruled out with ankle trouble and the fixture probably arrives too early for either Marco Gentile or Gerry Harrison.
Both are on the verge of a first team comeback after featuring in the reserves in midweek and are likely to play in one of the two junior games.
Waddle received a major boost when the Clarets clinched their first victory against Lincoln City.
Now he wants Burnley to build on that encouraging display against a Bristol Rovers side unbeaten in their first three League fixtures.
He added: "There were a lot of plus points to come out of the Lincoln game.
"I was pleased with our play. Our passing was good and, with a little bit more luck, we could have won by a much bigger margin.
"I've said all along that all we needed was a win to get us up and running.
"Now we've got that victory I think we will progress further. "It is early days yet. We've several new players still trying to find their feet and it is going to take time.
"I've no magic wand but we will get there."
