THREE village by-passes could be combined in a single roads scheme paid for with private cash.
Lancashire County Council has put forward proposals to combine the Colne-Foulridge by-pass with routes around Kelbrook-Earby and Thornton-in-Craven, along the A56 Colne-Skipton route, funded by a Private Finance Initiative. The scheme could go ahead in 2001.
Ways of paying for the Westgate link road, Burnley, are still being investigated.
The county council says it is unlikely private finance could be found for it either as a stand-alone project or combined into the A56 package.
Instead it is looking at the possibility of including it in a transport package for the town centre in conjunction with Burnley Council.
A 15-month environmental assessment is to be carried out along the Colne-Foulridge route, which follows the old railway line, before any road-building work starts.
