SOFT toys and flowers have been placed on the doorstep of the house where a teenager tragically lost her life in a fire.

Touching notes and tributes have been left by children and neighbours grieving with the family of 13-year-old Jane Walmsley.

The Moorhead High School pupil died in a blaze at her home in Lister Street, Accrington, on Sunday.

Her six-year-old sister, Jordan, and brother, Wesley, 10, who were also overcome by fumes, are in intensive care in Booth Hall Children's Hospital, Manchester.

Their mother, Dawn, 32, has been staying at the hospital.

Dawn's sister, Lee Walmsley, who lives in Accrington, said : "She's grieving and trying to hold herself together for the other children.

"Dawn loved our Jane to bits, we all did. She was a brilliant teenager. It's very hard for her, but it's a case of having to go on."

A funeral service for Jane is being delayed until Jordan and Wesley are more fully recovered.

Lee said: "There are no burns on any of the children. It was smoke inhalation."

She said Dawn wanted to thank all the emergency services involved in rescuing the children from the smoke-filled house.
