CHRIS Waddle is hunting for a striker to end Burnley's gloomy goal drought.
The Clarets manager spent yesterday trying to tie up a deal to bring a forward to Turf Moor in time for tomorrow's Lancashire derby with Oldham Athletic.
Waddle was forced to hand 19-year-old Ian Duerden his full league debut after Andy Cooke was sidelined with a shock hamstring on Friday.
That has left Cooke "very doubtful" for tomorrow's game and Waddle desperately short of striking cover.
"My priority is to try and bring a striker in time for tomorrow's game with Oldham," said Waddle.
"Losing Cookey so late on Friday was a mighty blow to us but, while Ian Duerden did well for us, he is still very short on experience. "Ian could become a good player in the future, but realistically we cannot depend on players with so little experience at this moment in time.
"We need to bring a couple of new faces in."
The disheartening 0-0 draw means Burnley have not scored a league goal in 360 minutes of league action - and are still searching for their first league win under the new management team.
Neil Moore, signed on a month-to-month contract on Friday, made his senior Clarets bow as a second half substitute for Duerden and finished the game partnering Paul Barnes in attack.
But Burnley were persistently booed by the 9,887 crowd in the second half and Waddle observed: "We did not play half as well as we did against Lincoln in the second leg of the Coca-Cola Cup.
"But that is football. Sometimes when you think you've cracked it has a habit of kicking you in the teeth.
"It was a very disappointing performance. On the plus side we kept another clean sheet and we defended strongly, but we looked flat. "All we can do is keep working to try and put it right.
"I think we are going to get this for a period when it will be okay for one game and not so good the next.
"At the minute we are looking for consistency. Although Bristol Rovers had quite a lot of possession, I can't remember them carving out a worthwhile chance.
"When the crowd started to get restless a few players lost their confidence very quickly. We look a hard team to beat but we need to start scoring goals. I'm quite happy with the way it is going. We will get it right."
