THE Lancashire League cricket programme is to go ahead on the day of the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

On the face of it this may appear somewhat insensitive.

But the matches start at 1.15pm which, we feel, allows for a respectful interval between the end of the funeral, which begins at 11am, and start of play. Many big stores will re-open at 2pm.

This is a crucial week-end when the championship will be decided. There may be cricket fans who feel it is inappropriate to play at all on Saturday. It will be up to them whether or not they attend.
