CHRIS Waddle has no spare cash to take new players to Turf Moor, writes BRIAN DOOGAN.
And that situation is unlikely to change in the near future.
The Burnley boss dropped the bombshell after last night's 0-0 draw against Oldham Athletic at Turf Moor.
He has made no secret of the fact that he would like to bring in a new striker. Burnley are now the only team in England without a league goal.
But with no cash available, Waddle's hands are tied and a suitable striker is unlikely to be snapped up.
"There is no money left in the coffers," said Waddle, who played up front alongside on-loan striker Andy Kiwomya last night.
"The only way is to wheel and deal and that makes it hard work.
"It would be nice to have a third striker but there is no money at the minute."
Andy Cooke is expected to have recovered for Sunday's trip to Chesterfield and Paul Barnes did not suffer any reaction after coming on as a second half substitute against Oldham.
And Waddle was pleased with Kiwomya's debut.
"Andy did all right," he said.
"It was a hard job in between two big centre halfs but I thought he did it well. "He was a wing back at Bradford and that was his first league outing of the season so the sharpness will get better.
"But he's got a lot of pace and he showed it and he'll be a useful addition for the month."
Waddle said he was not disappointed with the result nor the lack of a goal and believes that when the breakthrough comes the Burnley machine will click into place.
"It's a long season so too much concern at this stage is premature," he said. "It's just a nice point for the media to make a big deal out of at the moment, our not scoring a goal yet.
"But I have no doubt it will come. We have to be patient.
"The fact is the performance was good last night, much better than Saturday's.
"I thought we saw the real Mark Ford. Over the last couple of days there has been a different look about him and I think he's about to show exactly why he was brought to the club.
"The defence was very sound and Mark Winstanley did very well in a strange role for him.
"It wasn't Damian (Matthew)'s night but Paul Weller looked quite sharp and David Eyres looked like he was going to create something all the time.
"People have got this image of flowing Brazilian football but you have to make do with the resources you've got.
"Last night was better and I know it will come."
