RAINHILL recorded their second successive Saturday victory at Tranmere Victoria.
Rainhill were invited to bat first on a poor wicket and lost their first wicket at 22. Peter Mercer and Paul Ford pushed the total to 79 before Ford was run out for 19. Mercer dominated the scoring and Rainhill declared on 150-5 in 36 overs with maximum batting bonus points. Mercer was not out with 79.
Tranmere had to bat out 35 minutes before tea and effectively the match was over in this period as they crumbled to 18-5.
Nick Chapman claimed three wickets and Dave Birkett two. The resistance after tea was brief as Chapman and Birkett wrapped up the victory as Vics were all out for 43 in 16.5 overs. Nick Chapman 5-29 and Dave Birkett 4-13.
Rainhill 2nd XI also recorded victory at home to Tranmere Vics. The visitors made 120 all out with Mattie Dale 4-49. With the minimum of fuss Rainhill hit 121-0 Steve Toghill 77 not out and Jim Fairclough 44 not out.
