AT long last! Prescot & Odyssey 1st XI have won a match !
It has been a long time coming, following their last success over Mersey Park in early July, and was indeed timely as it finally guaranteed them of Merseyside Competition First division cricket next year.
The win came at St Mary's Old Boys and saw P&O batting first to muster 144 for 8 declared from 46 overs. This represented a good recovery having earlier been 21 for 3. The revival was led by top-scorer Alan McComb (with 44) and Simon Ramsden on 33.
The declaration allowed enough time for P&O's bowling to get into the batting, and so it proved as SMOB were skittled for just 75. The wickets were shared amongst the bowlers, though Tony Bonner took top honours with 3 for 31. Barrie Keeble took 2 wickets, as did spinners Al McComb and Simon Ramsden who got good value from their match fee!
Back at Burrows Lane the seconds had the better of a draw. They set 167 for 7, thanks to 68 from Don Hurst and some 'creative scoring' later on from Bill Ewan and Bernard McNamara.
SMOB seconds were never in the hunt. They lost early wickets and looked in trouble at one point on 30 for 3. However, they managed to survive and played out for the draw settling on 112 for 8. Andy Greenwood was the pick of the bowling taking 4 for 27.
