LIFE can be very tiring when you're a multi-million pound National Lottery winner.
So when Karl Crompton, who scooped a £11 million jackpot in May last year, decided to splash out on a £2 million mansion, bedroom furniture was top of his shopping list.
Karl, who lives in Elswick, called at Accrington-based bed makers Sleepmasters and ordered not one, not two, but 20 top-of-the-range king-size Slumberland beds each costing £1,000.
When the 22-year-old bachelor drove up to Sleepmasters' Wigan branch, store boss Phil Hilton didn't realise what a dream customer he was.
He said: "Nobody really recognised him at first. He pulled up in a blue BMW convertible and came in alone.
"He asked to see the top-of-the-range Slumberland bed and spent about five minutes testing it out.
"Then he turned to our assistants and asked if he could buy 20! We thought it was a joke because of the cost."
Mr Hilton added: "Karl might have the comfort of millions of pounds in the bank but he obviously needs a good night's sleep."
Sleepmaster, which is based at Taskers, in Queen's Road, Accrington, confirmed it was their biggest order of the year.
