A CHARITY which helps needy people furnish their homes is pleading with the caring community of Hyndburn to donate vital supplies.

Hyndburn Used Furniture Store urgently needs beds, wardrobes, cookers, fridges and other household goods to carry out its work of helping those who need it most.

Currently a team of voluntary workers only operate every other Monday and Tuesday delivering and collecting equipment simply because there are not enough donations being made.

But coordinator Alvin Ansell would like to see his team working on a weekly basis helping as many families as possible. He said: "We are always short of supplies and it is very frustrating because there are a lot of people who need our help but there is nothing we can do. At the moment we are helping around 15 families every two weeks but in an ideal world we would work every week.

"It is not a case of people not wanting to help us, but I think it is a matter that people don't know we exist so we are appealing to them to donate any unwanted furniture to us." The charity, formed in May last year, is based at Unit Seven, Queen Mill, Pennyhouse Lane, Accrington. It is funded and supported by Hyndburn Council, Hyndburn Christian Stable and the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to the charity or interested in becoming a volunteer can phone a 24-hour answerphone line on 232893.
