Lee Smethills was again unbeaten, Daniel Helme dropped just one point, newcomer Robert Black scored a creditable 12 points.

With just one round remaining, A & T are assured of the title - providing they contest this month's final round at Sheffield.

Racing in the Astley & Tyldesley League Blackmoor beat Gin Pit 36-28 in the final round of the series.

But Gin Pit are champions on 10 points ahead of Blackmoor 7 and Clifton 5. Dale Edwards (GP) won the Individual Points comp on 20.

A & T ran homesters Hull close in the Northern Senior Fours League.

They hit 46 points, the same as Tameside and just two behind Hull.

Mike Hack raced his best of the year, there was good back-up from Lee Smethills, youngsters James Mann and Daniel Helme recorded good wins.

In the Northern Junior League A & T notched their fourth win, scoring 103 points, ahead of Heckmondwike 87, Tameside 68, Bury 37, Hull 33.

Saturday's British U19 Team Championships at Gin Pit have been called off as a mark of respect as the world mourns Diana, Princess of Wales.
