POLICE are appealing to anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in, or around Napier Close, St Helens, at about 12.45pm on Wednesday, August 28.

The men, who claimed to be workmen, called at the home of an 83-year-old woman in Napier Close. She let the pair in after speaking on the intercom and once inside one of them kept her talking while the other wandered off. Fortunately the pensioner followed the second man and found him rummaging through a chest of drawers. When she questioned what he was doing both men left the property without stealing anything.

The first man was white, in his early 30s, and about 5ft 4in tall, with a slight build and dark, long moustache. He wore a yellow jacket and baseball cap. The second man was white, about 35 years, with a heavy build, 5ft 8in tall and clean shaven. He was wearing a grey anorak. Both men spoke with local accents.

ANYONE able to help the police with regarding this incident can contact DC John Dutton on 0151 777 6876, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
