VANDALS struck at the Burnley town centre floral tributes to Princess Diana, scattering bunches of flowers around the market square.
Burnley resident Robert Holden said he was appalled to witness the sad scene when he visited the centre last night.
He believes some vases - one containing two teddy bears - have been stolen.
"They are missing and they could only have been taken by thieves," said Mr Holden, 30, of Duke Bar.
Mr Holden who placed his own floral tribute, with dozens of others next to a statue in the square.
He said: "I am not a royalist but I felt Princess was a wonderful caring person who did a great deal of good. Several members of my family have left flowers there. I am disgusted that anyone should show such little respect to her memory and the feelings of the many people who care."
Burnley police say they have not received a complaint but would look into the matter.
Burnley councillors stood for a minute's silence in memory of Princess Diana at the start of last night's full meeting.
