COTTON workers who remember the visit of Mahatma Gandhi to East Lancashire are being sought for a new documentary on the amazing event.
Gandhi visited the north of England for three days in September 1931 at the invitation of the Society of Friends.
The Society was involved in the cotton industry and had dealings with Gandhi's aides through the International Peace Movement.
Gandhi stayed with Charles Howarth near Darwen on the Friday night and met a group of workers at Greenfield Mill in the town on Saturday.
He then went to Edgworth near Bolton before staying at Heys Guest House near West Bradford, Clitheroe, as guest of Percy Davies, Socialist millionaire mill owner and Labour candidate for Skipton.
On Sunday he met senior industrialists and unemployed weavers and spinners from all over the north who came to meet him before eventually returning to London.
Granada Television is making a one-hour regional documentary about the visit and wants to hear from anyone involved.
If you were a mill worker, a member of the Society of Friends or one of the many who saw him in Darwen, call Terri or Marc on 0161 832 3337.
