CHRIS Waddle could turn to Scandinavia in a bid to strengthen his attacking options.

The Clarets player-boss has made another striker his top priority at Turf Moor.

And I can reveal tonight he is ready to run the rule over the league scene in Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

"I need another experienced striker to compete with the two regulars I've already got," said Waddle.

"But prices in England are so restrictive that I'm looking to the continent and to Scandinavia in particular. I've already put the feelers out in that direction.

"Their season will be ending quite soon and players will be available to come over here and play until March or April of next year.

"I remember when I was at Bradford City last season, they brought in Ole Sundgot and Robert Steiner.

"Bradford ended up signing Steiner from IFK Norrkoping for £500,000 and he is now a Swedish international.

"There are some very good quality players out there and I will be looking in that direction.

"That is definitely an area I will be pursuing with some vigour over the coming weeks.

"The transfer market here has gone through the roof but it is still possible to bring players in for far less than you would be paying in our inflated transfer market." But Waddle recognises he might have to sell first with no cash in the transfer coffers for fresh faces.

The player-boss revealed that he has had "some interest" shown in the six transfer-listed players, but added: "We've had a couple of telephone calls but no offers.

"I've got to raise some cash from somewhere, and I believe we need two or three new players to add to the squad.

"But we have no money to do that at present.

"I will have to discuss the matter with the board, but if we can bring a couple of new faces in, I don't think we will be far away.

"I believe we need two players in every position at the club.

"We can't do that at this time and we are going to have to do so some wheeling and dealing to bring some cash in."

Burnley Reserves are in Pontin's League action against York City at Bootham Crescent tonight. The fixture was originally scheduled for Turf Moor but has been switched due to major electrical work at the ground.

The Clarets Independent Supporters' Association hold a question and answer session at Burnley Cricket Club tomorrow at 7.30 pm.

Guests on the night are Tony Dewhurst of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Radio Lancashire anchor man Gary Hickson, Burnley Express sports editor Edward Lee and skipper David Eyres.
