A WOMAN fought off an attacker and punched him in the face before he ran off last week.

The woman was grabbed from behind as she walked home along the promenade in the early hours of September 5.

As she reached the junction with Regent Road the man pinned her against a wall and indecently assaulted her. A struggle ensued and the woman punched the man in the face and began to scream which caused the attacker to run off.

The woman, who gave police a good description of the man, was left shocked with bruising to both arms.

The attacker was described as a white male, 28 years of age, about 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build with fair crew cut hair. The lower half of his face was badly scarred from either an old burn or severe acne and he was wearing a black Adidas top with striped sleeves, dark trousers and dark trainers.

Anyone with any information about the attack should contact the police on 852168.
