A PRESTON truck driver is seriously ill in hospital after a horrific motorway crash on Tuesday morning (September 9).

Thomas Baxter, aged 34, from Bamber Bridge, near Preston, was cut free from his van by emergency services after it collided with a 50-seater bus on the M6 southbound near junction 12, Cannock, Staffordshire.

Mr Baxter, who works for Abrams Haulage at Lancashire Business Park, Centurion Way, Leyland, near Leyland, was taken to Manor Hospital in Walsall, West Midlands. He has facial and wrist injuries and was yesterday (Wednesday) transferred to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton to receive specialist treatment. His condition is stable.

The bus involved was en route to Buckingham Palace for passengers to lay flowers in memory of Princess Diana. Two elderly women from Crewe died and eight others were injured.

Staffordshire Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
