AFTER being forced to sell its minibus to survive, First Preston Boys' Brigade is again under threat of closure.
The group, set up in 1952, meets every Thursday at St David's Church Hall, Eldon Street, Preston.
But if they can't raise money for running costs, its 20 young members will be out on the streets.
Fund-raising coordinator Sandra Chester said they needed £1,000 to keep them going: "If we don't raise the cash, it will be the end of the group," she said despondently.
"We want to get more children involved, and keep them off the streets and out of trouble."
The groups needs the money to pay its subscriptions to the Boys' Brigade and for administration and supplies. But for the youths involved, almost everything, including uniforms, is free.
"At the moment they are building a go-cart." said Sandra: "They learn a lot about mechanics and practical skills."
So far they have secured backing from Asda and Capital Travel at the Lane Ends, but unless they can keep the coffers full, they could be in trouble.
To help boost funds, they are holding a coffee afternoon and car wash event on September 20, and they are appealing to anyone with unwanted gifts, or items suitable for a white elephant stall to donate them. Call Sandra on 01772 769029 to find out how you can help.
