TIM SHERWOOD could be in line for a comeback against Leeds United on Sunday as Rovers aim to keep their Premiership top spot.
The Rovers skipper resumed training this week after missing the first five games through injury and suspension and could be ready to lead the team out against a side manager Roy Hodgson says should not be underestimated.
With tough-tackling Billy McKinlay still doubtful, Sherwood will slot straight back into central midfield alongside Garry Flitcroft for the visit of George Graham's stuttering Leeds.
And as Colin Hendry admits he is still uncertain whether he will start the game after being knocked out cold against Crystal Palace, Sherwood will regain the captain's armband from the giant Scot.
Despite United's slow start, having won one, drawn one, and lost three times, Hodgson says they are a side more likely to be challenging for Europe than battling against relegation.
"When you start underestimating teams like Leeds United you are in trouble," he warned.
"They have had an indifferent start but they are a side that are more likely to be near the top of the table rather than the bottom.
"Leeds are one of the truly great teams and in George Graham they have a great manager. Just look at their recent history. They have won more trophies than Blackburn Rovers and you cannot ignore that." Having signed Norwegian international defender Tore Pedersen from German club St Pauli for £500,000 this week, Rovers are closing in on Nottingham Forest reserve keeper Alan Fettis. Hodgson hinted that it could be his last signing of the season.
LANCASHIRE'S two form sides come face to face in the second round of the Coca Cola Cup when Preston North End visit Ewood Park on Wednesday, September 17.
