A WHITEFIELD fire crew responding to an automatic alarm were diverted to another blaze - at their own fire station!
The alarm was raised when an emergency salvage tender rescue vehicle burst into flames inside the Bury New Road building.
However, sub-officer Robert Shaw, who was in the station, dealt with the blaze after being alerted by the smell of burning plastic. His colleagues returned shortly afterwards.
An electrical fault is being blamed for Wednesday's (Sept 3) outbreak. The vehicle was towed away to undergo repairs.
