DIETICIANS in Leigh are urging women of child bearing age to become more aware of the benefits of a healthy diet.
The advice comes as Wigan and Leigh Health Services NHS Trust prepare to join in National Breakfast Week which starts on Monday and runs until Sunday.
The basic advice to women is to check their diet for the important vitamins, including Folic Acid, a B vitamin which helps protect unborn children from such defects as spina bifida but only if taken before a pregnancy.
A spokesperson for the NHS Trust said: "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and can be very healthy if we choose breads and breakfast cereals instead of a full coked English breakfast. Certain breads and most breakfast cereals have a range of vitamins and minerals added to them which gives us a good start to the day."
