POLICE are putting a spanner into the works for local car criminals.
A month-long 'Operation Spanner' has been set-up to tackle thefts of and from cars.
And as part of the on-going strategy, a series of road shows will give advice on how to fight car crime.
They will be at:
Tesco, Atherton - on Sunday (Sept 14, 10am-2pm)
Normid, Hindley - Sunday, Sept 28 (10am-3pm)
Pioneer, Ellesmere Street, Leigh - Sunday, Oct 18 (10am-3pm).
Four local garages are also co-operating with police by handing out security advice leaflets.
"Besides the advice, the leaflets will encourage people to assess any risk their car might be in," said Det Ch Insp Mike Whiting.
Members of the voluntary cadet force will also be distributing leaflets in areas where there have been problems of car crime.
Added Mr Whiting: "Car crime hasn't increased in the area but because there hasn't been a decrease, as in other areas of crime, we are now taking a closer look at it."
