HOMES and businesses will get a £10 cheque from North West Water to say sorry for a burst water main.

Around 2,700 people in the Rosehill and Glenview Road area of Burnley were without a water supply for more than 12 hours on September 4.

Children arriving at Holy Trinity School in RaglanRoad, Rosehill County Junior School and Rosehill Infants were met by teachers and sent home.

Householders had to rely on water deliveries by tankers and bottled water - which were provided by the company.

Customer Operations Manager, Sandy Squires, said: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to customers affected by the burst.

"Unfortunately, we were unable to re-route water into the area through alternative mains and due to unforeseen difficulties repairs took much long -er than anticipated.

"We thank customers for their patience and understanding since the burst occurred."

Initially, water to 5,000 houses in the area was cut off but workmen managed to restore the supply to 2,000 properties within a couple of hours.
