Blyth Spartans 0 Lancaster City 1

LANCASTER City got their first ever win at Blyth and fully deserved it after a rock-solid performance. Lancaster attacked straight away and got a free kick in the 5th minute after Ian Dring forced one of Blyth's defenders into a handball. Jimmy Graham took the kick but it swerved just over the crossbar. Credit must go to the defenders and goalkeeper who made sure that Blyth didn't get a sniff of the goal. Thornley, who has just recovered from a shoulder knock, was constantly tested by through balls but he was dominant in the box. In the second half, both teams got their best chances of the match. First, in the 56th minute, Blyth left their supporters with their hearts in their mouths. Jimmy Graham swiped for the ball and missed, leaving Damian Henderson one on one with City's 'keeper. He fired the ball past Thornley but he was denied by the inside of the post.

Lancaster were determined to score and Gary Worthington set up a goal after coming on for Ian Dring. He chipped the ball over a defender to Dave Lancaster who muscled past a defender and fired the ball past the keeper for his fourth league goal in five games and put the team in good shape for the first qualifying round of the FA Cup against Consett at Giant Axe.

Lancaster: Thornley, Craven, Graham, Bairstow, Jones, Flannery, Hartley, Wilson (Cheal 85), Lancaster, Dobie, Dring (Worthington 80).

Subs: Boyd.
