YOUNG film-makers will see their work on the silver screen at a leading international film festival.

The budding Spielbergs have had their work chosen to be featured as part of the Co-operative Young Film-Makers Festival at Granada Studios, Manchester, on October 10 and 11.

Work by youngsters at Gibfield School, Colne, and brother and sister directing duo Tommy and Morgan Clough, also of Colne, will be screened with features by 367 other groups and individuals from all over the UK and abroad.

The work covers areas from drama and documentaries to animations, comedies and silent films.

'Around the World' is an experimental animation by Gibfield students who tried to make the journey around the globe without leaving their school building. Judges said the work was creative and inventive. Tommy and Morgan's entry 'Let's Face It' is also an animation using cut-outs from magazines and drawings to show the changing face of a model as she slowly transforms into the 'Spitting Image' of Groucho Marx.

"This is a very inventive and accomplished film which really appealed to us," said the judging panel. "It could be developed further to tell a story but still using the same techniques."

Tommy, 10, a pupil at Laneshaw Bridge Primary School had a film screened at the festival last year but this time Morgan, 12, a pupil at Westholme School, Blackburn, wanted to get involved.

Their mum Debbie, of Birchenlee Lane, said: "They just started messing around with the camera, trying to get shots of their younger brother Charlie but it didn't work so they decided to use magazine pictures.

"They're very excited at the idea of their work going on the big screen. Someone from Coronation Street will be presenting the awards so they're looking forward to that."

The youngsters will receive a certificate and a £15 prize and the chance to learn more about film-making and television from the experts.
