A ROSSENDALE man was back in the Valley after a one-man peace mission to Russia.

Anthony Nixon, 54, of Helmshore, was secretary of Rossendale's British Soviet Friendship Society. He spent six weeks in the Soviet Union and met people from all walks of life.

Mr Nixon, a lecturer and chief librarian at Burnley College, said: "Why should we leave world peace to the politicians?"
