RESOLUTE Chris Waddle today spoke about his first two months in the managerial chair at Burnley and vowed: "I will get it right."
Burnley endeavour to break their Division Two scoring duck at York City tomorrow as Waddle goes in search of his first league win as Turf Moor manager.
But the Clarets player-boss believes Burnley are on the right track and says it is only a matter of time before his strikeforce find the net.
"I've found management more frustrating than hard," Waddle admitted.
"Probably the most confronting aspect is when you have to change your side at short notice due to injuries.
"You can formulate your plans and then you get an injury and have to re-think the whole process.
"That, perhaps, is the difficult aspect.
"I think a lot of fans thought it might happen overnight when I was appointed
"It was possibly a case of Chris Waddle, big name, in you go and it will be an instant success.
"But nothing happens overnight in football, yet nobody deserves success more at Burnley than the fans.
"I can only describe their support since I've taken over at Burnley as phenomenal.
"I can only begin to imagine what the support would be like if I could turn this club into a First Division force.
"They gave us a bit of stick against Bristol Rovers when we turned in a poor display (0-0) but they will be there in their thousands at York, just like the other away games so far this season."
Waddle added: "I think all the pre-season publicity perhaps affected the players a little bit but they are beginning to show what they are capable of now. "Obviously, I'd love to be higher in the table. Nobody likes to be bottom of the league but we will soon be challenging.
"I've brought players in like Steve Blatherwick, Michael Williams, Lee Howey, Mark Ford, who all have Premiership experience and things are now starting to come together.
"Generally, I'm loving the challenge and I know we are on the right lines."
Waddle was keeping his selection plans under wraps today for the Bootham Crescent assignment.
But he added: "We can go to York and get a result. We've had a great week in training and there is a tremendous amount of belief in the squad.
"We were so unlucky not to get something from the game at Chesterfield and, sooner or later, our luck in front of goal is bound to change."
"I'm really pleased with how the defence has worked. We've looked reasonably solid.
"We've only conceded three goals in six league games and people tend to overlook that fact that when they talk about us not scoring in the league."
Meanwhile, former Burnley defender Steve Davis, who moved on to Barnsley, has been brought to Bootham Crescent on loan and will start against Burnley tomorrow.
The 32-year-old broke his leg in January and has not played much since.
But his experience is seen by York manager Alan Little as a vital asset. "He's just what I'm looking for," said Little. "We need a natural centre half to come in and defend.
"It would be easy to leave Mark Tinkler, who's a midfielder, there. But with teams like Watford, Plymouth and Walsall coming up, we could do with a natural defender."
Burnley are expected to choose from: Beresford, Weller, Brass, Blatherwick, Howey, Eyres, Ford, Matthew, Waddle, Barnes, Cooke, Smith, Kiwomya, Moore.
York from: Samways, McMillan, Hall, Bushell, Davis, Barras, Pouton, Tinkler, Rowe, Cresswell, Stephenson, Atkinson, Reed, Jordan, Murty, Tolson, Bull.
Nigel Gleghorn's proposed move to Northampton Town has been put on hold after the midfielder picked up a hamstring niggle while playing for Northampton Reserves against Leyton Orient on Wednesday. The deal is still likely to go ahead but Northampton will wait until he is fully over the injury, which is not thought to be serious.
Up to 2,500 terrace spaces are available for Clarets fans at York City tomorrow. It will be all pay on the turnstiles with prices at £7.50 (Adults) and £4.50 conc.
The Coca-Cola Cup second round, second leg tie against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday, September 24 will also be all pay on the night. Burnley have been allocated 5,000 seats in the South Stand £14 (Adults) and £8 (conc).
The B team stage an attractive Lancashire League friendly against Blackburn B at Gawthorpe tomorrow (11am). The A team have no fixture.
