A DRIVER had to be cut free from a car and airlifted to hospital after an accident in Laneshaw Bridge at 9am today.
The car, understood to be a sports model, went through a wall and ended up in a field beside Keighley Road near to the Hargreaves Arms.
Police, fire and ambulance were called to the scene along with the fire brigade incident support unit.
Cutting and spreading equipment was used to free the driver and Lancashire police helicopter was on stand-by at 10am to airlift the casualty to Royal Preston Hospital.
Police sealed off the main road connecting Colne and Cowling leaving traffic with a several mile diversion over moorland roads.
Police were unable to give further information but county ambulance said it was understood the driver was "quite poorly".
