BURY 1

MAN CITY 1

HONOURS ended evenly divided at the end of a pulsating derby match which provided great end-to-end entertainment.

There was little to choose between the two sides in a first half which saw neither goalkeeper tested, though Tony Battersby hit a post for Bury and City had a shot headed from the line by Peter Swan.

It was a different story in the second half, however, as City stepped up the tempo. Star man Georgi Kinkladze showed his class with a couple of amazing dribbles and the Georgian international beat several Bury defenders before winning a penalty.

Bury keeper Dean Kiely saved the spot kick however, and Bury took the lead through David Johnson, following good work from the tireless Nicky Daws.

Nine minutes from time City equalised with a header from a corner by debutante David Morley.

Bury manager Stan Ternent was satisfied with his team saying: "I think overall it was a fair result. When we were one up, Lenny (Johnrose) had a good chance, Johnno looked like he had scored, we hit the post, they hit the post, they had the penalty. I think that's everything in the derby match. I think our players have come a long way especially against a side that's cost millions of pounds, compared to what we have."
