I FULLY agree with G Smith's remarks "lacking hygiene" (Letters, September 9).
I am constantly writing to the town hall concerning the filthy state of Devonport Road, Blackburn, and the surrounding areas.
I was told only last week that the streets are cleaned every Thursday and are being monitored. They don't need monitoring; they need sweeping.
Would not the person doing the monitoring be better employed with a brush?
The two fields at each end of Ribblesdale Place are used as a dumping ground. The derelict shops on Saunders Road and rundown empty houses are a real eyesore.
Filth left by binmen two weeks ago is rotting down nicely, laying down a welcome for rats.
This must be one of the dirtiest, most neglected areas in the North of England. I agree with Mr Smith when he asks who the councillors are.
We live here and we don't know either. Why did they put up for the council if they don't want the job? What do they do all day?
With Saunders Road having a gradient of one in six, could this be where the saying "Going downhill fast" comes from?
