MANCHESTER'S millionaires can expect respect but precious little else in the way of a welcome when they arrive at Gigg Lane tonight (Fri Sept 12).
Stan Ternent, the Bury manager, will send out the side that has taken six points from its last two games as his side bid for a place in the First Division's top five.
Ternent's message to his troops will be simple . 'Do what you have been doing all season'. "We will respect City but we certainly don't fear them," he declared as he put the finishing touches to preparations. "They have a number of top class players but we pride ourselves on being a team and being exceptionally hard to beat.
"Georgi Kinkladze is a world class player, way out of our dreams financially, but I wouldn't swap my players for City's. Our own Andy Gray is getting a lot of media attention but we are a close knit unit - a team in every sense of the word - and so far we've shown we can live with the big boys in the First Division."
"Now we have to make sure we play properly and not showboat because we are on the big stage in front of live television. If I think any of my lads are playing to the cameras they'll be in serious trouble."
Gigg Lane will be packed to the rafters for tonight's sell-out with City fans expected to make up more than half of the 11,800 all-ticket crowd.
"City supporters will occupy both ends of the ground so it is important that our fans get right behind us from he start," continued Ternent. "At the same time we have got to make sure we give them something to shout about. I am sure we will."
Bury will be without Dean West who had a hernia operation on Tuesday and will be missing for six weeks. Skipper David Pugh is added to the squad after coming through the Reserves' 3-0 win over Doncaster on Wednesday night.
City could recall German striker Uwe Rosler who missed their recent win at Nottingham Forest. Boss Frank Clark will check that Kinkladze's World Cup exertions against Italy haven't taken their toll before naming his side.
