CLITHEROE Chamber of Trade planned to launch a crimewatch scheme in a bid to crack down on shoplifting.
President Roland Hailwood said shoplifting was on the increase and there was evidence that thieves were coming into the town to steal.
A public meeting was to be called to try to find a solution to the problem and to encourage local people and shopkeepers to be vigilant against thieves.
