WHAT a fitting tribute it is to the memory of Princess Diana that special stained glass panels commemorating her life and work in the community are to be included in the lantern tower of Blackburn Cathedral.
As the grief and mourning for her showed, when more than 6,000 people visited the cathedral to sign its book of condolence and bring flowers, Diana was truly loved in Lancashire.
And how eloquently that sentiment is now expressed in this call from the public for a permanent memorial to her to be in Lancashire's cathedral church.
We are sure that the appeal for donations for the memorial in the new lantern tower will be answered with a generosity equal to the gratitude that the people of this region already have for the memory she leaves behind.
