A JOINER who broke his neck in a fall at work will not walk again.
David Singleton, 51, of Higher Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle, has been in a specialist spinal injuries unit since the accident more than three months ago.
His girlfriend Janet Holt, 37, of Accrington, has been a constant visitor at Southport and Formby General Hospital trying to keep his spirits up.
Speaking from the spinal unit, Mr Singleton said: "Some weeks I am all right and some weeks I am not so good and get a bit down"
He has now switched from a wheelchair which had to be pushed to an electric wheelchair he can operate himself.
Mr Singleton said: "There is no chance of my legs moving again.
"My left arm works but my hand doesn't and I don't think there's any chance for my other arm."
He is undergoing intensive daily occupational therapy and physiotherapy including spells in the swimming pool to relax his muscles.
Mr Singleton said: "They are trying to get the best they can out of me and seeing what progress I make."
He is likely to be in the unit for some months.
Janet said: "His house is not suitable as he has to have somewhere all on one level with the right facilities."
Mr Singleton was working on ceiling joists at an empty house in Darwen when the accident happened early in June.
