A HEALTH watchdog blasted moves to temporarily close a town's accident and emergency ward.
Community Health Council vice-chairman Frank Gorton greeted the news that Blackburn Infirmary's 20-bed ward would close for six months as "utterly deplorable".
Casualty patients were to go straight onto open wards when the unit closed in a cost-cutting exercise.
