Mark Templeton Surfs The Net

IT had to happen. Pictures claiming to be of the Princess of Wales lying injured in Dodi Fayed's crashed car appeared at several points on the Net during the week.

Doubts about their authenticity cropped up straight, away as well as doubts about the morality and sanity of the people who put them there.

If the pictures are real, what point is there is putting them up? What use does it serve other than to bring misery?

And if they are fakes, what's the point of creating them?

No-one would advertise on a Web site of that sort.

The owners may find their network connection provider thinking of cutting them off.

Free web space provider Geocities has already removed one such site from its servers, according to some reports. Let's hope more swift action follows on the others.

World knows about Su's local

COMPUTER buff Su Armitage loves her local pub so much she decided to tell the world about it over the Internet!

Su, of Accrington, has her own web site and included are pages dedicated to her favourite pub, The Park Inn on Manchester Road. Thousands of people around the globe have their own Internet homepages these days but they can often be dull.

Those thinking of doing a spot of DIY netting should take a look at Su's site because she has put a witty slant on even the most mundane things. As well as popping into the pub, you can take a tour around her Accrington home, see pictures of her pets and she's even created a handy Lottery programme for people involved with syndicates.

There are dozens of pictures and links to other East Lancashire sites (including the Lancashire Evening Telegraph!) and plenty of stuff to keep the average surfer happy. Well worth a look to see how Internet homepages can be great fun.

Visit to Number 10

IT'S doubtful you'll ever get to have a look around 10 Downing Street unless you're a cabinet minister or Noel Gallagher.

So take a trip to the official Downing Street web site where you can have a virtual tour through Tony Blair's home.

You can even sign the visitor's book and take a look at the history of previous occupants.

THE Lancashire Evening Telegraph web pages continue to be widely read by people all around the world. According to our research, which lets us see where in the globe people are accessing our pages, we have readers in Singapore, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Slovak Republic and the Lebanon. We even have a regular reader in the American government. Maybe Bill and Hillary want to keep up to date with the Rovers progress this season!

THE history of Accrington Stanley is well documented but for those who don't know much about the historic club it's worth paying a visit to their web site . There's plenty of stuff about players, the old Peel Park park stadium and you can even download the famous Stanley Song.

And die-hard fans can e-mail orders for T-shirts, mugs and keyrings.

FANCY sending an e-mail to Hollywood babe Sandra Bullock or hunk Mel Gibson?

There are dozens of celebrities listed on the World Wide Web with information and pictures on your favourite stars. Some even have e-mail addresses where you can write to them although I wouldn't hold your breath for a reply!

IF four times a week isn't enough for you then get another fix of Coronation Street news over the Internet. The official pages about those folk from Wetherfield are packed with interviews, pictures and behind the scenes gossip.
