ELDERLY folk will be able to relax in comfort at a social centre thanks to a cash boost from Help the Aged.
The charity has awarded £6,600 to St Joseph's Community Centre, Barnoldswick, as part of its Home Truths campaign to combat the isolation many older people living alone feel.
The grant will furnish and decorate a new lounge area at the centre as part of the refurbishment of the former St Joseph's Primary School building in Bolland Street. The lounge will open five days a week and other activities will go on in the main hall.
Treasurer Harold Watson said: "I think it's important to put something back to help those less well or disabled.
"The lounge will be a place where people can meet and have a chat and enjoy the company."
Lynn Enzor, of Help the Aged, added: "Being able to come to this lounge will certainly help stop elderly people in Barnoldswick from being lonely."
