THERE'S a treat in store for music lovers at the end of this month - a concert of Gilbert and Sullivan favourites.
Songs from the Savoy Operas make up the first half of a musical evening in aid of the MRI Scanner Appeal, with the remainder of the night dedicated to composers from Verdi to Gershwin. Arnold School has agreed to stage the event on September 27 which will be sponsored by former Fylde Mayor Alfred Jealous and his wife Muriel.
Savoy Savouries and Bravo will feature principles of the renowned D'Oyly Carte Company as well as soprano and tenor duo Two of Hearts (Deborah Clague and Geoffrey Shovelton).
The concert follows the success of a similar event held at the Grand Theatre in April. MRI appeal co-ordinator Elaine Fossett explained: "We all had such a fantastic time and people kept asking if we could have another one.
"Those who attend will not only have a most enjoyable evening - they will also be helping a worthwhile local cause.
"Victoria Hospital urgently needs an MRI scanner and there is still a long way to go before the target figure of £1.9 million is reached. Your support for this concert will help bring that figure to a successful conclusion."
The first half of the programme features songs from the likes of The Mikado, HMS Pinafore and Pirates from Penzance but for variety, they are not the same as those performed at the Grand Theatre. Tickets for the event are £25 which includes a buffet supper with wine and can be bought by sending the booking form with your payment to Elaine Fossett, Appeal Co-ordinator, Blackpool Victoria Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal, Furness Drive, Poulton-le-Fylde, FY6 8JT.
